Breaking Ground (BG) is the platform for European student film and filmmakers. Our goal is to give new talent the chance to present themselves and their work to the public and the film industry. As a platform, we take every opportunity to present European Student films by organizing events, masterclasses and workshops for our international audience. Besides that we programme the best student films.
Breaking Ground operates on a project-basis with a regular staff of around 10 employees. This number shifts as projects come and go. Of course we can't do without our wonderful team.

Head of European Network (8 hours per week)
Breaking Ground’s team consists of circa 10 to 15 permanent employees. Besides we attract temporary employees depending on the projects ahead. The person we are looking for now will focus on establishing and maintaining our European contacts. Together with our program team and the head of our blog, he/she will make sure that Breaking Ground will operate on a even higher level in the European territory.
The “Head of European Network”;
- maintains contact with all partner organisations in Europe;
- keeps updated about what’s going on in Europe especially concerning the area of student flm;
- approaches and sets up new partnerships with organisations in Europe;
- maintains, together with the head of our blog, the contact with all BG’s correspondants;
- is involved in the artistic vision of Breaking Ground.
Profile:
- has interest in and knowledge about international film;
- is a strong communicator;
- a pre-existing European network is a benefit;
- he/she speaks fluent English, other languages are benefits (he/she does not need to speak Dutch).
What do we offer?
Breaking Ground is a young organization that runs entirely on the enthusiasm and commitment of volunteers. This means this concerns an unpaid job. From May 1 to June you will become incorperated.
This function, though, offers you the possibility to build up a big network within the European film industry and gain experience in organizing cultural events and work on your communication skills. This function is easily combined with other part-time work. Other employees of Breaking Ground work on Friday, so it would be important to be present on this day and keep it free.

Breaking Ground’s team bestaat uit 10 vaste medewerkers. Daarnaast worden er op projectbasis andere medewerkers aangetrokken.
De administratief medewerker voert de structurele administratieve zaken zelfstandig uit. En zal in de overige taken aangestuurd (maar ook ondersteund) worden door andere leden van de programma-afdeling.
De administratief medewerker is verantwoordelijk voor:
- Het archief en de administratie van ingezonden studentenfilms
- Het in gang houden van de continue stroom van filminzendingen
- Het contact onderhouden met filmscholen en andere filmfestivals
- Het contact onderhouden met de filmstudenten
Profiel van de administratief medewerker:
- kan goed zelfstandig werken
- werkt overzichtelijk en orderlijk
- interesse voor film is een pré
Wat bieden wij voor de functie?
Breaking Ground is een jonge organisatie die volledig draait op het enthousiasme en de inzet van vrijwilligers. Het gaat dan ook om een onbetaalde functie. Van 1 april tot 1 mei word je ingewerkt.
Wel is dit een functie waarbinnen je de mogelijkheid krijgt in korte tijd een groot netwerk binnen de Nederlandse filmbranche op te bouwen en ervaring op te doen in het organiseren van culturele evenementen. De functie is prima te combineren met andere parttime werkzaamheden. De medewerkers van Breaking Ground werken op vrijdag.

Medewerker financiële administratie (8 uur per week)
Breaking Ground’s team bestaat uit 10 vaste medewerkers. Daarnaast worden er op projectbasis andere medewerkers aangetrokken. De medewerker die wij zoeken, zal zich bezig houden met de financieel-administratieve kant van de organisatie en haar afzonderlijke projecten.
De medewerker financiële administratie;
- werkt de boekhouding bij en rapporteert hieruit,
- verwerkt in- en uitgaande facturen en doet het debiteurenbeheer
- verzorgt belastingaangiftes,
- houdt projectadministraties bij en
- denkt mee over de financiële organisatie van Breaking Ground
Profiel
Minimaal MBO niveau en graag relevante werkervaring op een financiële administratie. Wij vinden het belangrijk dat je je wilt ontwikkelen in je vakgebied en binnen onze organisatie. Je bent accuraat en flexibel, kunt goed zelfstandig werken en bent collegiaal.

European correspondents wanted!

We feature films and their makers we think you should see, behind-the-scenes looks at the industry, professionals in the industry looking back on their student time and offering helpful advice – all in all, the Breaking Ground Blog is a must-have in the Favorite-list of every filmstudent.
We don’t just make the content up from the top of our heads, we get it from a trusted group of correspondents. These correspondents are filmstudents from all over Europe that provide us with interesting input. They are our eyes and ears; they look around in their own schools, regions and countries to see what’s happening in the world of student film. We’re also very interested in their opinion, what can Breaking Ground do in their school or your area?
The Breaking Ground Blog works with anywhere from 6 to 8 correspondents at any time. We currently have a few spots remaining:
We’re looking for preferably 2nd or 3rd year film students who are right in the middle of things, with an active interest in the filmworld around them, with a firm understanding of the English language and a keen eye.
The function is on a voluntary basis but provides an excellent first-step in the film industry, looks great on your resume and provides you with a broad professional European network. Are you interested and do you want to get involved?
